About The Sport
Landboarding
Kite Landboarding has all the thrills of kite surfing without getting your feet wet! This fast-moving,fast-growing sport brings together the best elements of skate, snow,
downhill mountain boarding (ATB) and power kiting to make one of the most exhilarating experiences around.Kite Landboarding can include speeding down a long sandy beach, or getting huge jumps and performing tricks.
Once you've learnt how to get moving on a board, you can start to jump, which involves turning the kite at the right time and being pulled up into the air, then returning to the ground, but in a controlled manner. Once in the air, you can perform a variety of tricks such as spins (360's), letting go of the kite (if you are using a harness) and grabbing the underside of the board.
Kitesurfing
Kitesurfing is the ultimate sport for water enthusiasts. Get a kite, board, wetsuit and you're off! Kite surfers use slightly different kites to land kiters, but the principle is still the same. These are known as LEI's (Leading
Edge Inflatable) and are designed to provide maximum power, yet not sink when they hit the water! Different sized and shaped kites are used for different purposes in different conditions. For people that say "a kite's just a kite" is the same as saying "a car is just a car!".
Once the basics have been learnt, there is huge potential for doing a variety of tricks, huge jumps and stunts. It's highly recommended to seek lessons / guidance from an experienced kitesurfer before venturing out by yourself for the first time as it can take a while to get the grip of things!
Snowkiting
Snowkiting is another example of the popular extreme sport series as there are many hazards that circle this sport as well as kitesurfing. Snowkiters take their board to the mountain and ride the winds down fast and furious. Moguls and ramps can help you gain more air than you bargained for if you are a beginner. Starting slow and learning how to keep your kite in the air is the basic
fundamental. Once you have mastered the techniques you will be flying in no time at all.
We have been supported by Snowtrax, based near Bournemouth, with their help to introduce the basics of snowboarding on the dry ski slopes. Members that hold the BKSA card with the club membership get various discounts from lessons to equipment through them. If enough interest is taken up on this we have in the background a few trips from Scotland to Eastern Europe.
