Mudeford Quay

Mudeford is famous for it's waterfront location, and the village quay attracts large numbers of visitors throughout the year. This waterside location is great for kite recreational flying and land boarding as well as launching surf kites for use in Christchurch Harbour. During the winter the field is generally empty which is any kiters paradise, however due to being a popular tourist destination during the summer and school holidays which leaves very little space for kiting. Due to previous issues with local residents and the council we request that treat other users of the field with respect. The best wind directions here are south westerly’s and westerly’s. There are plenty of facilities on site including a large car park, toilets, cafe, shop, pub and children’s play area.

Avon Beach - Mudeford

Avon Beach in Mudeford is a popular site for kitesurfers. With a large sandbank just offshore the water is fairly shallow which is great for beginners - however more experienced kitesurfers will venture a bit further out into deeper water. The sandbank also helps to create a small amount of surf! Being on the south coast, onshore winds will obviously be coming from the south! It is worth checking the local tides as Christchurch has two high tides a day and a large tidal range. There is a car park right on the beach front - however during the summer this fills up rapidly, so it's worth turning up early to get a good parking spot! With a beach side cafe, shops and toilets there’s everything a kite surfer could need in a day! It’s also a short 5 minute walk to the pub on Mudeford Quay too.

Baiter Park

This location is outside of our coverage but worth a mention. Its a superb area for learning to landboard or just get used to a new kite static. With a wide flat area there is still plenty of space even in the busy summer periods. As most locations please respect all other public users and give them wide space. There is plenty of parking spaces which are all pay areas. Best of all, a little hut which serves hot food !! Highly reccomended and superb value.

Steamer Point

Steamer Point can be found to the east o fChristchurch right on the beach front. Despite the site being popular with dog walkers there is plenty of space for kitesports here. Suitable for both buggying and landboarding throughout the year, with clean winds from either the south or south east make this a great place to fly. Steamer point is home to the infamous "Gap Jump" made famous be local landboard legend Steve Smith - videos and photos of which can be seen in our media gallery. If you take a look at the map we've provided you'll even see kites laid out on the field and ready to fly! Facilities here include a beachside cafe, toilets as well as a pay and display car park.

Boscombe Surf Reef

Boscombe's artificial surf reef is part of a £10 million regeneration of the area. This is currently the only one in Europe, and the others can only be found in Australia & New Zealand at present. As you may expect in the summer this will be heaving with people all accross the UK so space will be at a prime. The reef itself is located aproximatly 225 meters offshore so anyone using it will be out their depth. Please make sure you are confident with the conditions of the day. There are car parks right on the beach resonably priced and a superb place for a spot of lunch. There will be more development for shops and eating in the very near future!
